The Mermaid's Purse Farm Bed and Breakfast
Penny and Michael invite you to visit our 1847 farmhouse in Prospect Harbor, Maine. Thirty-two acres of woods and fields, and 1/4 mile of ocean shore offer visitors simple pleasures, small adventures and quiet delights, in a casual, country setting. Mermaid's Purse Farm a Maine Coast Bed and Breakfast, is convenient to spectacular Schoodic Point (the uncrowded northern section of Acadia National Park), Jones Pond, Mt. Desert Island by ferry, and points north.
We welcome you to our home, an American Gothic farmhouse built by Captain Daniel Deasey in 1847. Our Maine Coast Bed and Breakast is a constant work-in-progress; our offerings are changing over time. We plan to have five rooms for guests with private baths. Our Maine Coast Dog Friendly Bed and Breakfast is open year round. Right now, we have five rooms available with private baths. The Favorite room has a private bath room with tub next door to the room itself. We provide robes, of course. Our Bed and Breakfast offers architectural surprises in the form of arched dormers and interesting angles. Breakfasts at the here are informal and can be tailored to your tastes. Well mannered pets and children are welcome, though we are not child proof. Our two sheep dogs, Pye and Meimei are happy to see everyone, and we have several barn cats who don't come in the house.
Birders and naturalists enjoy identifying the variety of wildlife that can be observed in our fields and on the shore. We regularly see eagles and osprey, as well as gulls, crows, the ocassional raven, a variety of small birds and marsh hawks, ducks, herons and loons. There are great sites to set up an easel. Sunsets are spectacular and the night sky is truly stunning. (We are happy to share the telescope!) We are a favored destination for walkers, bird watchers, readers, writers and painters all year round.
We are artists and writers and we are happy to share our work and yours. We are a great venue for special small retreats - painter's group/ book group/ meditation group vacation and will be happy to respond to your small group's special needs.
We are a Bed and Breakfast, but can arrange to offer evening meals in seasons when local restaurant service is limited. We are happy to provide lobsters for dinner!
Please note: Our B&B is unique, a reflection of our personal styles and goals. We want our guests to feel as at home as we do. We hope to become a working farm some day, and so, something is always going. We are accommodating and flexible, but not perfect. Rooms are comfortable and clean; breakfast is very good; views are wonderful. You can enjoy the house as a base from which to take off or a place to stay and chat; but we are casual, rather than elegant. Please do not expect formality.
We welcome inquiries from guests with special requests and can arrange packages accordingly. We can help you arrange kayaking trips, lighthouse and seabird tours, bike rentals and art workshops
